BRIEF

Create an interactive installation by doing video mapping

In a team of five, we aimed to build a 3D interactive installation using TouchDesigner and video mapping. The challenge lay in balancing technical constraints with artistic elements, such as dynamic light and form manipulation, all of this related to the music that we chosed.

Ideation

Making our cardboard model

After we had the music, we had to designed the cardboard to determine the scene, the objects on it and how we would interact with it.

Box shape

First, making the scene in the box was obvious to us, because a box allows you to displays elements on 5 differents surfaces (on the sides, top, bottom and the back wall).

Adding features

Then we chose to add some complexity, hierarchy and perspective in the scene by ading triangles to the walls and some pillars in front of the scene. Take a look!

Story Board

Restructuring our ideas

Once the cardboard model was made, we had to make the storyboard. We divided the music in three phases to make three sequences that are similar in many ways but different on the number of animations and intensity. For instance, the sequence 1 will be more chill than the 3.

Conception

Touch Designer

TouchDesigner was the software used to do the mapping in real-time. We learned how to use it, to do, first of all, the mapping of our shapes on the cardboard. Then, we started to work on our sequences adding some colors to the shapes on the rythm of the music. We aslo added textures and tried to improve ourselves with the help of the teachers.
